Friends of
Skyway Library

Welcome! Friends of Skyway Library (FOSL) is a community volunteer organization that supports the Skyway Branch of the King County Library System (KCLS).

Like many libraries, Skyway has a Friends of the Library group made up of community members who want to strengthen and support their local library. Friends groups are independent, member-supported nonprofit organizations that raise funds, advocate for library services, and help expand what libraries can offer their communities.

FOSL raises money through events such as book sales. Those funds help support programs, events, and other needs that may fall outside the library’s regular budget. Friends also help build awareness of library services and encourage community support for the library.

FOSL members meet every other month to hear updates from Skyway librarians, discuss past and upcoming programs, plan fundraising efforts, and organize events. Librarians identify programming needs and submit funding requests to FOSL. FOSL then uses the funds it has raised to support those programs and pay program providers.

This partnership helps Skyway Library offer more of the programs the community values, while extending the impact of the library’s existing budget. It’s a simple model with a direct benefit: more resources, more programming, and more support for the Skyway community.
